Well, after quite some time, I thought that all of you deserve an explanation about the current state of the mod and why the f*** is taking so much time. As a proof of my honesty, I recorded myself (Which I really hate) talking in English (which I think is embarrassing) to give you all the information you’ve been waiting for. If you have more questions, I will be pleased of answering you here.
This week, I’ve been required to be part of the “placeholder voice” Team a couple of times. The first one for a localization testing with my Spanish colleagues. It was fun and weird at the same time, like asking to a bunch of hair dressers to be astronauts for just one day. Still, it got even better with all these Spaniards around.
But the second time gets the Award for the “most bizarre recording session” in which I’ve ever been involved. We had to record ourselves screaming and shouting for one scene, like if we were trapped in an elevator for many days with Rick Astley singing the infamous “Never gonna give you up”. Right after finishing, we had to explain to some of our surprised co-workers that everything was OK. I was expecting the Polizei to knock on Yager’s door, asking what the hell just happened. : D
I would love to continue being the “placeholder guy” for many more recording sessions. Who knows if one of my screams will make it into the game. : D
Of course, this had to happen. Don’t get me wrong. I’m happy about this! Others may take this issue as a problem, but for me, this is just free marketing. Unfortunately, people may not understand that a game is just that. Even using a real location, if it is in a fantastic setting, any relation with reality is… well, pointless.
Fantasy doesn’t write the future of a nation. Anything fictional does (or should do)… and never, NEVER, should be taken seriously. Sadly, this is going to be the new controversy… Dante’s Inferno has the catholic church, Modern Warfare 2 the Russian politicians, Resident Evil 5 some angry members of a black community, etc…
I’ve been waiting for this moment for a looong time, guys. SPEC OPS: The Line has been finally revealed in the SPIKE TV VGA 2009 as a World Premiere, and gamers from all around the world are receiving the new teaser very positively! Enjoy with the new footage!
As you may know, I’m working here at Yager Development as Level Designer… and now I can proudly say, IN THIS AWESOME GAME!
