This week, I’ve been required to be part of the “placeholder voice” Team a couple of times. The first one for a localization testing with my Spanish colleagues. It was fun and weird at the same time, like asking to a bunch of hair dressers to be astronauts for just one day. Still, it got even better with all these Spaniards around.
But the second time gets the Award for the “most bizarre recording session” in which I’ve ever been involved. We had to record ourselves screaming and shouting for one scene, like if we were trapped in an elevator for many days with Rick Astley singing the infamous “Never gonna give you up”. Right after finishing, we had to explain to some of our surprised co-workers that everything was OK. I was expecting the Polizei to knock on Yager’s door, asking what the hell just happened. : D
I would love to continue being the “placeholder guy” for many more recording sessions. Who knows if one of my screams will make it into the game. : D
Tiger Style, creators of the popular hit “Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor”, was awarded last Friday with the “Best iPhone Game” Award in the IGF 2010 (Independent Games Festival 2010). Why should I be interested? Well, because I translated this game into Spanish, and somehow I kinda feel part of this success.
Congratulations to the team! You made an awesome game and should be recognized as such. You totally deserved this award. Let’s hope is not the last to come!
If you want to know more about Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor, check the following video and get the game HERE if you are a lucky iPhone owner.
No doubt Valve is one of my favorite studios in the Gaming Industry, along with Naughty Dog and Epic. Not long ago, Machinima’s YouTube channel published a 40 minutes documentary about Valve’s history, which is totally recommended and worth watching. Enjoy the ride!
